Micro Seiki DD-40

This beautiful Micro Seiki DD-40 turntable has the sought after MA-505 MK I tonearm.  Micro Seiki is known for building top quality turntables and they always fetch high prices on the aftermarket.  This table features:

  • Drive system: DC servo motor
  • Speeds: 33.33 and 45rpm
  • Fine adjustment speed range: +-6%
  • Platter: 32cm die-cast aluminium
  • Wow and flutter: less than 0.028%
  • Signal to noise ratio: more than 62dB
  • Tonearm: Dynamic balance type
  • Effective length: 237mm
  • Overhang: 15mm
  • Offset angle 21 degrees
  • Cartridge weight: 4-10g
  • VTF range: 0-3g

The solid base is made of Palisander-Rose finished press board and is fitted with large shock absorbing feet.

One technical note is that it is common for the strobe light on these turntables to show speed instability when it is actually not the case. Though it may be attributable to old capacitors on the power supply board as well. Also, the tonearm offers a number of adjustments which some find exciting while others have difficulty with all the variability.

As I mentioned above Micro Seiki turntables are highly sought after and sell well.  A DD-40 will sell for around $1300.00 in excellent working condition.

I’m curious to understand how a strobe light that shows unstable speed control is not actually struggling to maintain speed. A strobe light is a very analog way of measuring speed and to my knowledge reads 100% accurate.
